Intro & background
This steel import–export factory (name withheld) relied heavily on manual documentation and used chat applications like LINE to share operational data. This approach lacked transparency, made financial control difficult, and created frequent errors in stock and workflow management.
To address these issues, we initiated a custom factory management and inventory system project.
Problem
Unclear and inconsistent data regarding imported and exported stock volumes.
No attendance tracking system for employees (absent, late, leave records).
No transparent tracking of requisition forms between factories or customers.
Lack of a centralized dashboard for monitoring factory operations and performance.
Solution
Designed a structured digital factory system integrating with scalable developer frameworks for inventory control.
Introduced an HR module for attendance tracking, employee history, and payment documentation.
Created a standardized, factory-specific requisition form system to streamline stock issuance.
Developed a centralized dashboard for management to monitor performance, predict profit/loss, and plan ahead.
UX Focus
Easy-to-use inventory system that supports operational planning and financial forecasting.
Clear data access hierarchy and user authorization by role and responsibility.
Reduced workflow redundancy and improved transparency through systematic process design.
KeyTakeaway
This project emphasized the importance of understanding real factory operations through user interviews, on-site research, and collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders.
I learned how tailored (“custom”) design solutions must balance business requirements and user practicality and how close collaboration with developers is crucial to minimize errors for end-users.
Although the project ended prematurely, it provided invaluable experience in designing complex operational systems grounded in real-world needs.
