Intro & background

Thai Credit Bank initially offered overdraft (OD) loans to small and medium enterprise (SME) owners through relationship managers (RMs). This manual process often resulted in redundancy, delays, and a lack of daily visibility into OD interest calculations.

To improve customer convenience, the bank aimed to provide overdraft users with clear access to their remaining balance and OD interest tiers, along with core functions such as executing multiple large-scale transfers. Future phases would also support corporate transactions.

The application was therefore designed with a focus on ease of use, convenience, and security at every stage.

Problem

  • SME loans were originally managed via current accounts and handled by RMs (Relationship Managers).

  • Processes were redundant and prone to errors in OD (Overdraft) interest calculation.

Solution

  • Check OD balances and interest tiers.

  • Execute multiple large-scale transfers.

  • Support corporate transactions in the next phase.

UX Focus

  • Prioritized ease of use, convenience, and security.

  • Simplified complex banking workflows for better customer experience.

  • Collaborated with multiple banking departments to align on compliance and functionality.

Application flow

In the first phase, the core focus was on person-to-person transfers. The following phase will expand to cover transactions between individuals and corporate entities. Each transfer type required carefully defined conditions and close collaboration among the design, development, and business teams, as well as alignment with the regulations set by the Bank of Thailand (BOT), to ensure the outcomes fully supported the organization’s objectives.

Design Prototype

Balance Notification

Clear balance notifications displayed on the home screen (visible only after authentication), ensuring transparency in account activity and encouraging users to regularly review their finances.

Account Inquiry

Overdraft users can clearly view their remaining balance and interest tier details, enabling better financial awareness and decision-making.

Split Transfer

For SMEs, large-sum transfers and business expenses are critical. The design incorporates clear alerts at each transaction stage, while maintaining ease of use as a key principle throughout the process.

Usability Testing

We conducted both face-to-face usability testing and remote testing via Maze.com. Overall, the results were positive — users of the Overdraft account were able to clearly understand the account information and perform inter-account transfers without friction. In addition, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a System Usability Scale (SUS) score projection were applied as standardized benchmarks to evaluate the user experience.

KeyTakeaway

I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with banking systems and the security standards required for financial transactions and identity verification across different stages of the process. In addition, I worked on developing a design system that integrates tokens to enable scalability across the entire organization, while also collaborating closely with various departments within the bank.
